FINANCING OPTIONS FOR LASIK:

LASIK surgery is an elective procedure. You choose to have LASIK because you want to, not because it is medically necessary. Most insurance companies do not pay for LASIK, but you should check with your insurance provider to see if they cover LASIK as a benefit or if you qualify for discounted pricing.

Flex Spending Accounts (FSA):
Flex spending accounts offer employees the option to set aside pre-tax dollars from their gross income to cover medical expenses partially covered or not covered by their basic medical plan. Each pay period, a specified amount will be deducted on a before-tax basis from the employee's paycheck and deposited into a special account. A maximum contribution amount is determined by each individual employer and so not roll over from year to year.

Health Reimbursement Account (HRA):
HRA's offer employees the ability to manage the costs of their own health care, including LASIK. An employer established and funded HRA reimburses employees for qualified medical expenses up to an account balance. The employer sets the contribution schedule at the time of enrollment and decides which medical expenses to include. The dollars are tax-free to employees and a HRA rolls over from year to year as long as the employer chooses to offer the program. There are no established rollover maximums or account caps. However, if you leave your job, your employer may keep the funds in the account.

Health Savings Account (HSA):
HSA's can be opened by an employer or an individual. You must have a qualified high-deductible insurance policy to open an HSA. Coverage for qualified medical expenses is defined by the IRS. Contributions to HSA's are made on a 100% tax-deductible basis, which means you can deduct them from your gross taxable income. HSA's grow from year to year making them a long-term saving advantage.
