WHAT IS RESTOR®

The AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens is more advanced than traditional IOLs because it’s multifocal instead of monofocal. Monofocal lenses, as the name implies, can only give you clear distance vision–glasses are still needed to see up close. The AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens, on the other hand, can give you clear vision at all distances, from near to far. This is because it corrects both cataracts and the condition known as presbyopia, which causes many people to need reading glasses as their eyes age.

The AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL is designed to allow for distance (watching children playing in the backyard), near (reading) and intermediate (computer work) vision and a high chance for freedom from glasses. You will get the full benefit of the AcrySof® ReSTOR® when it is implanted in both eyes. In a FDA clinical study demonstrated that 80 of patients never needed to wear glasses again.

APODIZATION

An innovative optical technology called “Apodization” make the AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens uniquely effective, especially when placed in both eyes. Apodization is a blending of optics which increase the utilization of imcoming light in an effort to minimize visual disturbances - especially nighttime driving conditions. This design allows multiple images from near, distance, and intermediate to be sent to the brain at the same time similar to your natural lens - thus allowing a full range of vision. A similar technology has been used for years in microscopes and telescopes to improve image quality and has now been patented for use in intraocular lenses by Alcon, the world’s leader in lenses for cataract surgery.

ADVANCES ON THE LAKESHORE

Shoreline Vision is the most experienced eye care practice in and around the Lakeshore utilizing the latest technology available in lenses for cataract surgery produced by Alcon. The Surgery Center at Shoreline Vision has become the area's premier facility for eye surgery since its doors opened in May 2006.
